Objective behind the trip
The objective behind the trip to Mandu was to familiarize
the students with the historical surroundings and lifestyle
of the ancient past as well as life in the plateau of Malwa.
Observation of Students
Observation of Students: The students were deeply impressed
by the delicate and intricate work of jalies on stone as
well as the lofty Tombs and Mahals. They observed that The
Jami Masjid and Hoshang Shah Tomb are the best examples of
brilliant architectural designs reflecting huge domes and
arcs of pillars. They admired the famous Jahaz Mahal and the
Champa-Baodi which was called so because of the sweet
flavour of its water which is said to have smelled like the
Champak flower. |

Observation of Teachers
The teachers were spellbound with the information they
received regarding the conservation of water and the methods
adopted in those days to ensure that even in the worst days
of summer the rooms were kept cool and comfortable with
gentle breeze flowing from the pavilion to the rooms through
the gallery and then finally passing out of the top of the
well. A short distance from the well we saw the Hammam or
the Hot Bath and Sun Bath that the Queens of that time
enjoyed. A valuable observation was that of filtration of
water in ancient times, where rain water flowed down the
sloped terraces of the Rupmati Pavilion and collected in a
tank which was layered with fine sand and coal through which
water was filtered and supplied to the Raj Mahal for
drinking . The Rupmati Pavilion was an ideal location for
the queen from where she could get a perfect view of the
Narmada River. |

their eagerness to learn more about the past and present
alike. A healthy and rewarding interaction between student
and teacher was observed. The genuine concern and human
feelings of our Director Bernard Sir to ensure that the
students were taken good care of in the summer heat by
supplying them with endless rounds of Cool drinks and
Bisleri water at regular intervals to ensure they did not
suffer from dehydration.
